Free Donne is a team dedicated to several non profit projects, described below. You can become a member of many projects if you wish.

Project Kiva: LEND a small amount of money |
Project World Community Grid: donate unused computer time |
Kiva.org is described on the Wikipedia as:
Kiva Microfunds (commonly known by its domain name, Kiva.org) is an organization that allows people to lend money via the Internet to microfinance institutions in developing countries around the world and in the United States, which in turn lend the money to small businesses and students.
Our team, named Kathleen, tries to collect enough loans to cover all the countries available. The first 12 countries are:
Note that this is all about lending money, not giving money: after a little while you'll get your money back. The minimum lending amount is $25.
This project is in memory of Kathleen Smith, researcher in biology, who sadly passed away from cancer in February 2011 at the age of 51.

You can join this project to help medical and scientific research by donating a little of unused time of your computer.
BOINC is a well known open source free software that allows your computer to become part of a computer grid, in our case the World Community Grid.
The World Community Grid describes itself as:
World Community Grid brings people together from across the globe to create the largest non-profit computing grid benefiting humanity. It does this by pooling surplus computer processing power. We believe that innovation combined with visionary scientific research and large-scale volunteerism can help make the planet smarter. Our success depends on like-minded individuals - like you.
The sub-projects of this project includes:
Supported platforms: PC (all Operating Systems), MacIntosh, servers.

Put your GPU at work: Folding@home |
|
This project involves giving your graphic card unused time for high performance computation. Today's graphic cards (GPU's) are made of hundreds or thousands computing elements that can work together thus capable of billions operations per second. The Folding@home project takes advantage of that property to find out how proteins fold.
Protein folding is linked to disease, such as Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers.
The research is conducted by the University of Stanford.
Supported platforms: ATI or nVidia graphic cards. Windows operating system.
